The New Frontier Casino-Hotel was demolished in front of a large crowd on Tuesday, signaling the end of one of the oldest properties on the Las Vegas Strip.

The 16-story casino hotel was imploded, using over 1,000 pounds of explosives. A new Plaza branded resort is scheduled to be opened on the site in 2011.

The New Frontier Casino Hotel was the second oldest casino on the Strip, and made history in a number of ways – as the first themed casino in the area, and the host to Elvis Presley's debut performance in the city.

IDB Group and Elad Group said the new development will include a luxury hotel with 3,500 rooms, private residences, retail space and a casino targeting the high end of the market. "Let me promise to all of you today that we will build in this beautiful city one of the most magnificent hotels in the world," said Tshuva, one of the partners in the development "I think that there should be no price tag for a place with such enormous potential."

The demolition of New Frontier is just one part of an extensive facelift for the Strip. The Stardust Hotel – Casino, another budget option, was imploded earlier this year.   The future for Vegas, it seems, is High-End casinos and hotels.
