Jerry Yang, the World Series of Poker 2007 Main Event winner had been scheduled to appear at this years Macau based Asian – Pacific Poker Tour event, and indeed attempted to attend, but problems with his Visa meant he had to stay in the United States.
The Asian-Pacific Poker Tour event is the first of its kind to be held in the People's Republic of China, and is sponsored by Jerry Yang's sponsor, the PokerStars Online poker room.
Yang had wanted to attend the event, but was unable to as although he is a resident of the US, he holds refugee status, and needs a Visa to enter Hong Kong. Trouble arose at the airport, and Yang was refused permission to board his flight.
Yang, aged 39, lives in Temecula, California. He is married, and has six children. He rose to fame after winning the 2007 World Series of Poker main event, and has donated ten percent of his earnings to charities such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Feed the Children, and the Ronald McDonald house.
The Macau tournament would have been the first major appearance for Yang since the WSOP, but it seems that the poker world will have to wait a little while longer to see Jerry play again.
