Fire officials yesterday determined the cause of the roof fire which forced the evacuation of Forxwoods Resort Casino. Saverio Mancini, a spokesman for the casino, said that the fire was caused by the malfunction of an electrical heating device which was intended to keep pipes from freezing.
The fire was the second at a U.S. Casino in under a week, and forced guests at the hotel, and customers of the casino to evacuate. Nobody was injured in the fire. The previous Friday the Monte Carlo casino hotel in Las Vegas was temporarily closed by a fire which started in some roof lining.
Many guests of the hotel had to be moved to other hotels following the incident. They were allowed to return yesterday to collect personal items. Most of the hotel has re-opened, however there were 22 rooms affected by water damage, and the top two floors remain closed.
A total of 22 rooms in the 312-room hotel were affected by water damage. The top two floors of the eight-story building remained closed on Wednesday, said tribal spokesman Bruce MacDonald. The rest of the hotel and its ground-floor casino were re-opened.
The blaze was extinguished late in the afternoon, with 17 fire departments comping to the aid of the 35 man tribal fire department.
