A fire on the roof of the Foxwoods Casino Resort forced guests and gamblers to evacuate on Tuesday afternoon. This is the second fire to occur at a U.S casino in the past week.
The other fire, which occurred on Firday, was at the 32-story Monte Carlo casino-hotel in Las Vagas, where the foam lining of the roof caught fire and caused the Casino to close while repairs were made.
The fire, on the roof of the eight-story Great Cedar Hotel, was reported around noon, and continued to smolder until min-afternoon. Saverio Mancini, a spokesman for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe-owned casino said that nobody was injured in the incident.
The fire was extinguished by early evening. Authorities believe that the fire started under the steel roof, and are currently investigating the exact cause of the blaze, which is believed to be related to a mechanical equipment room near the roof.
Hotel staff started by evacuating the top three floors of the hotel, before deciding to evacuate the entire building, including the Great Cedar Casino on the ground floor.
More than 280 guests were given complimentary rooms – some at the other two Foxwoods hotels, and others at a hotel in North Stonington.
