Jason Potter, a 22 year old professional poker player from Oklahoma was held up at knifepoint and robbed of his winnings after a night at the Crown Casino in Melbourne.
Potter left the Crown Casino in the early hours of the morning, with $30,000 in winnings from the Aussie Millions poker tournament.
Potter's successful night turned bad when he was confronted by a robber, and had his winnings taken from him. “I did briefly go to fight back until I saw the knife but [...] no amount of money is worth it” he said.
He believes that his attacker had been watching him throughout the night, and decided to strike when he cashed in his chips then headed to McDonald's on the way back to his hotel, only a few hundred meters away.
Potter was shaken by the incident, but was unharmed. He says that he enjoyed playing poker in Melbourne, and would return again, despite the robbery.
Potters winnings were mostly in US $100 bills, with some large Australian notes. Police have issued a call for any witnesses, or anyone financial institutions, exchange outlets, or travel agents who see anyone attempting to change large amounts of American $100 notes to come forward.
