Chaos struck the Boardwalk Casino complex in South Africa when 14 armed men struck the casino, and robbed it of more than R250,000.
Visitors to the casino were forced to run for cover as six armed men walked out of the casino with the money, while firing their guns. Two waited in getaway cars, while others covered the entrances to the casino complex.
The raid began shortly after 1AM. The robbers gained entry to the casino by threatening security guards at gunpoint, then forced open the security bars of the cash desk to get to the money. They entered the casino, stuffed their bags full of money, and left within three minutes.
Security guards and some casino customers tried to follow them, but the robbers at the entrance ordered the guards to hand over their firearms and radios, and get down on the ground.
Police arrived on the scene moments later, but they were not in time to catch the robbers, who were using stolen getaway cars. Inspector Kanna Swanepoel, one of the investigating operators, commented that “They seem to be old hands at this type of robbery and we will pull records to see if they follow a pattern.”
The investigation is still ongoing, however so far no arrests have been made.
