The field at the start of day 3 of the World Poker Tour Open in Tunica was full of big name pros, such as T.J. Cloutier, John Phan, and Barry Greentstein. A crowd of local fans flocked to watch the tournament, which began with a series of quick eliminations – seeing Brandon Steven, David Tran, and Jonathan Tare removed from the running.
Next out was Erick Lindgren – he had started the day with a strong lead, but lost a substantial amount to Nguyen in two unlucky rounds. Next out was Brian Taylor, followed by Gary Gibbs, and Gary Fur, leaving only two tables in the game.
At this point, 'The Master' Nguyen had a substantial chip lead, which he retained as more players were eliminated, securing himself a seat on the final table.
Eleven hands in to the final countdown, Rosenkrantz moved all in against Faustman, and lost, becoming the first to be eliminated, but walking away with $24,119. Four hands later, Burstein was eliminated, followed by Boyd. Faustman and Nguyen faced off, Faustman betting 200,000 and Nguyen raising to 500,000 before Faustman moved all in. Faustman had the nuts, and when Nguyen called, Faustman's friends began to celebrate, before Nguyen revealed he also had the nuts. The pot was split, and the day continued.
The final elimination turned out not to be Faustman or Nguyen, but Baas, who took away $72, 358.
The final table, who will be taking part in a televised game tomorrow, is:
Freddy Deeb
Brett Faustman
Men "The Master" Nguyen
Gabe Costner
Hoyt Corkins
John Spadavecchia
