Four small bombs exploded at a casino in northeastern Myanmar on Monday. According to reports by local media, and comments by a casino employee, there was minor damage to the building, but nobody was injured.
The attack was the latest in a series of such bombings in the military-ruled country. The casino in question was the Golden Triangle Paradise Restort Hotel, which is situated on the Myanmar-Thailand border, in Tachilek.
An anonymous employee reported that the four small blasts were heard near the employees' quarters at the hotel, and that the blasts did not appear to be intended to cause serious harm, but were instead meant to scare guests and employees. He also said that many guests did check out of the hotel after the explosions.
The bombs at the casino occurred after warnings from certain groups opposed to the military government that they would place bombs in busy places in the country to cause panic. Last month there were several bombings – including one at a railway station, and one at a circus show. Two people were killed, and five injured, in these attacks.
