Lightning Poker have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against PokerTek, alleging that PokerTek have infringed a Lightning Poker patent that 'relates generally to an electronic poker table with a center monitor screen showing multiple community cards and betting information for each player'.
Lightning Poker are accusing PokerTek of selling and offering for sale, poker tables that infringe the Lightning Poker patent. They are seeking unspecified monetary damages from PokerTek, as well as a permanent injunction on the use and sale of PokerTek's products within the United States.
PokerTek responded to the lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, saying that they do not believe their products violate the patent that forms the basis of the lawsuit, and believe that the patent may be invalid.
PokerTek said that they intend to defend their intellectual property vigorously. Chris Halligan, the chief executive of PokerTek, said that “after consulting with our attorneys, we believe this suit is without merit. This is not the first time Lightning Poker has sued us. Its last lawsuit was unsuccessful, and we will work to ensure a similar outcome here.'
After the announcement of the lawsuit, shares of the Las Vegas based company, PokerTek, fell by 2.5% to $4.75.
