After six days, and more than 600 eliminations, the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic has reached its conclusion, with Phil Ivey taking the crown in his seventh World Poker Tour final table appearance.
Ivey is already a proud holder of five World Series of Poker Bracelets, but until today had never held a World Poker Tour title.
Ivey started the final day with a strong chip lead – holding more than $1.5 million more than his nearest rival. He was up against a strong field, including Nam Le, Phill Hellmuth, and Scott Montgomery.
Ivey commented “Hellmuth is my good lick charm [...] But I was glad he busted out early”. According to Ivey, whenever the pair reach the final table, Ivey ends up winning. Hellmuth was first out in this particular table – going all in with a single pair, and losing to Nam Le's two pair. Le then went on to eliminate Scott Montgomery, before being busted by Ivey, who continued his elimination streak by dispatching of Moore in the next hand. Moore took $625,630 for his third place.
From there it was merely minutes before Quinn Do was eliminated, with his two pair unable to match Ivey's full house. Ivey walked away with $1.596,100, and his first WPT title. Quinn Do took $909,400 for his second place.
