After a long and slow first day at the WPT World Poker Challenge, day 2 was a refreshing change, with a fast start seeing many people fall out of the running. Things slowed down later in the day, as more cautious play became the order of the day in the run up to the final 27.
The day started with some light humour as Jordan Rich brought a copy of Erick Lindgren's strategy book to the table, and asked Lindgren about key points in the book as play went on.
Phil Ivey dominated early in the day, gaining a chip lead that looked almost unassailable. As the day went on, Ivey continued to play well, but several other players broke the 200,000 chip barrier. As play slowed down, it took several hours to reduce the field from five tables to four, and then down to three. Many professional players, including Ari Engel, David Redlin, Arnold Spee, and Hasan Habib fell during the later half of the day, but many professionals survived, includingDavid Pham, Chau Giang, Lee Markholt, and Erik Sidel.
