The Main Event of the World Poker Tour World Poker Challenge starts today, at 12:00PM PDT. The WPT World Poker Challenge is being held at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada.

The main event of the World Poker Challenge is a $7,500 buy-in No Limit Hold em Championship.   The championship is expected to run all week, with the final table being held on Sunday.

This will be the final WPT World Poker Challenge, as one of the six public events that have been axed from the schedule for the WPT Season Seven. The event was successful in the early years of the televised World Poker Tour, with interest peaking in 2006, when prize money reached an all time high, and Michael Simon took home $1,052,890 after beating a field of nearly 600 other players.

Interest fell in 2007, when there were only 475 entrants, and the grand prize fell to around the $600,000 mark.

Check back for results and updates regarding the poker tournament and surrounding events as the week progresses.
