Day three of the World Poker Tour World Poker Challenge proved to be a very exciting one, with the final 27 including some of the biggest names in the poker scene, as well as a handful of lesser known name who started the day with short stacks, thanks to the money bubble of the night before.
The field of 27 was quickly reduced to two tables, and Bryan Devonshire looked set to dominate early in the day, eliminating two players in one massive pot, and threatening for the chip lead early on after beating Don Dooley and Ron Linden. The flop came out 10h 9s 6c and Dooley and Devonshire went all in. Devonshire had 10s and 10c, but Dooley held 7s and 6h. The turn brought up 8d, giving Dooley a straight. Devonshire and Jason Potter pleaded with the dealer to pair the board, and when the river revealed 8s, Devonshire cried out “Yes! One Time!”, and claimed his full house and a stack of more than 450,000.
Devonshire continued to dominate for a short while, eliminating Erik Seidel. Later in the day others saw success, with Mizrachi taking out Chris Back before winning a big hand against Joe LePorre to build up a chip stack of 400,000.
Suprisingly, Phil Ivey struggled throughout the day, quickly ending up short stacked, and barely clinging to life. He eventually went out in 9th place. Pat Poels was next out, followed Chau Giang and then Mizrachi.
