Poker tournaments aren't just limited to real money or play money games any more. In today's digital age you can now enjoy poker tournaments in virtual worlds, with virtual currency.

The EOH Eve Series of Poker is a poker tournament set inside the Eve Online computer game. Eve Online is a futuristic online role play game, with thousands of players online at any time. In the game, players build and pilot space ships, and can fight other players for control of certain areas of the galaxy. The buy in is 1.05 Billion ISK – or, Inter Stellar Kredit – the currency used in the virtual world. 1.05 Billion is quite a lot of money, but the first prize, 11.5 Billion ISK, is sure to attract a lot of participants. The lowest prize is a guaranteed 7 Billion ISK.

The tournament is being ran by an in-game Corporation called Stay Pro. Corporations are formed by groups of players who want to work together, and are ran much like real life Corporations, with CEOs, Directors, Accountants, and shares. Players can use their in-game credits to purchase time cards which will allow them to play the game without having to spend any real life money.

Stay Pro run an in-game casino, and have ran several smaller tournaments in the past. This is their first high-stakes tournament, and its reception will dictate if they hold any more. If the tournament proves popular, then future ones may have a lower buy in, allowing less well off players a chance to use their real life poker skills to increase their in-game wealth.
