Michigan's former sports stars are to face each other at the poker table and on the golf course to help sick children.
Detroit Red Wings legend Mickey Redmond and Detroit Pistons hero Vinnie Johnson will demonstrate that their competitive spirit remains intact when they take part in the Sports Celebrity Weekend at a Michigan casino complex next month. The event, which takes place at the Grand Traverse Resort on June 27th and 28th, is designed to raise money for local children's charity Rainbow Connection, reports the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
It will begin with a golf tournament at the resort's Gary Player-designed Wolverine course before transferring to its new Turtle Creek Casino for a poker contest.
Among the other former professional sports stars to have signed up for the event are ex-Detroit Tigers pitcher Dave Rozema, former Detroit Lions quarterback Eric Hipple and Mike Lodish, who played in the Super Bowl six times during spells with Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos.
The event is scheduled to take place just three days after the official opening ceremony for the Turtle Creek Casino, which will house a poker room, 1,300 slots and 40 table games.
