Poker author and publisher Matthew Hilger is optimistic about his chances for this year's World Series of Poker. During the holiday weekend he took his first big win of the year a $132,000 first place prize in the $750,000 Guaranteed Poker Tournament hosted by Full Tilt. So far this year he has entered nine tournaments, earning 3 top 100 placings, and 2 final tables.
Hilger now has his sights set firmly on the World Series of Poker. He has a good track record for the tournament, taking main event cash prizes three times in the last four years, and nine times in his poker career.
Hilger plans to release several new poker books this year, and launch some web sites through his company, 'Dimat Online'.
When asked about the World Series of Poker, Hilger said "I definitely feel more ready than I ever have, as I have played a lot more online in the past year so I won't be rusty going into the World Series of Poker. I must also say that working with [...players such as...] Rizen, Pearljammer and Apestyles on the poker hands book has been helpful in simply being able to talk with these guys on a regular basis as well as learning a few tricks here and there by reviewing their manuscript."
Matthew Hilger rose to fame as the author of the book 'Internet Texas Hold'em'. He also runs an online community with a focus on on Internet poker, and writes for Card Player Magazine. His work has also been featured in magazines and periodicals such as All-In, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Away from the poker scene, Hilger serves on the board of directors for a charity called Colombianitos, that works with disadvantaged children in Colombia.
