America's potential new president has admitted before that he can hold his own at a game of poker.
If Barack Obama was to be voted in as the next president of the US, he would be following in the footsteps of Theodore Roosevelt and Richard Nixon as poker-playing men in power.According to the Observer, these former presidents - as well as Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower, among others - were all "proficient White House poker players".
The newspaper recalls comments made by Obama at the start of his campaign to become the Democratic candidate for the forthcoming US elections that suggest he too is a fan of the game.
He reportedly told the Associated Press his hidden talent was that he had the makings of "a pretty good poker player".
A number of presidents from recent times, including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, have not gone public with their poker opinions so if Obama was to be the next White House resident he may revise a "great tradition", the newspaper states.
In the UK, there are a number of famous faces that play poker on the celebrity circuit. Footballer Teddy Sheringham and snooker stars Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry are all keen card players.
