Unheralded Poker Players Make Final Table

The Spanish Championship has proved tricky for top players

A group of unheralded players will contest the final table of the World Poker Tour Spanish Championship.

The final table of the opening event of season seven of the World Poker Tour (WPT) has an unfamiliar look to it.

Many of the game's top players chose to remain in the US to prepare for the World Series of Poker instead of travelling to Casino Barcelona for the WPT Spanish Championship.

However, such famous faces as Antonio Esfandiari, Bill Edler, Juha Helppi, Bertrand Grospellier, Annette Obrestad and Carlos Mortensen did enter the tournament - only to make early exits.

Top Scandinavian professionals Patrik Antonius and Erik Friberg at least made it through to day three, but they too missed out on a seat at Tuesday's final table.

Instead Stefan Mattsson will begin the last day of the event as chip leader, with his stack of 1.2 million giving him an advantage of more than 200,000 over second-placed Thiago Nishijima.

The line-up is completed by Casper Hansen, Martin Lundenius, Guy Sitbon and Andres Vidal.ADNFCR-1691-ID-18609578-ADNFCR
