Punters were happy betting money, winning some back and then reinvesting it again at Ascot yesterday, according to the Guardian.
Visitors to Royal Ascot yesterday were queuing to collect their betting winnings before putting their money on races later in the day, according to the Guardian.Sports betting enthusiasts were out in their thousands to watch the various races on the cards at the famous venue.
The newspaper suggests that there was much "cheerful consumption" going on throughout the day, contrary to the current economic problems the UK is said to be experiencing at present.
It also claims that chancellor Alistair Darling "could have done worse" than to check out the mood at the racing before addressing the City on the economic situation last night.
Bookmakers and punters were both said to be in good moods throughout the day, although at one point it did look like the bookies were going to suffer a big loss.
Duke of Marmalade, Mr Aviator and Langs Lash were some of the winning runners during a day of exciting racing.
