Bettors Loving the World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker is now in full swing, and sports betting companies are taking bets on how each event will go, offering odds on which player will win each of the 53 preliminary events. The main event, however, the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold' Em championship, is the one that everyone has their eye on.

The main event will start on July 3 at the Rio All Suite Hotel.   The final nine will be determined on July 14, and play will suspend until November 9th, for the televised final table.

The lowest odds offered for a person to reach the final table is 100/1 – the price offered to Johnny Chan, Phil Hellmuth, Gus Hansen, Allen Cunningham, Carlos Mortensen and Daniel Negreanu. Many of those are previous main event winners. The lowest odds offered for a particular woman to make a final table is Jennifer Harmon's 150 to 1. Gabe Kaplan, best known for “Welcome Back, Kotter” has done quite well for a celebrity moving to poker, earning odds of 200/1.

If you prefer not to bet on who will make the final table, other odds are available, such as odds on the size of the field – many bookmakers are offering odds around 7/2 that the field will break a record 9,000 people, and odds of 4/1 that the field will stay the same. If you think poker is no longer popular, you could take up the 250/1 odds that the tournament will only attract 2,000-2,499 people this year. You can also bet on a person from a particular country (such as Denmark, Russia, or Germany) making the final table.
