Harrah's - environmentally friendly

Visitors who head to Harrah's casinos and hotels either to relax of for a spot of gambling can do their bit for the environment at the same time.

Las Vegas and Atlantic City casino group Harrah's Entertainment has teamed up with NativeEnergy, an international marketer of carbon offsets and credits for renewable energy.

The collaboration will see the casino firm's properties offer guests the chance to offset their carbon footprints by paying for 'credits' that go towards renewable energy projects around the world.

According to the company, getting involved in this initiative can help people mitigate the global warming impact caused by their travel to the casino venue they are visiting.

Gary Loveman, chairman, chief executive and president of Harrah's, said that the firm are always looking for ways to become environmentally friendly.

Explaining the reasoning behind the new programme, he added: "Environmental stewardship is an important component of our Code of Commitment, the casino entertainment industry's preeminent declaration of corporate social responsibility."

The Associated Press reported last week that the newly-established Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel in Michigan has been constructed using various energy-saving equipment and is a good example of how the gaming industry is focusing on helping the environment.
