Golden Nugget casino in Downtown Las Vegas will host a charity poker tournament on July 1st.

Poker is set to be played in the name of charity at the Golden Nugget casino in Las Vegas' Downtown area.

On July 1st, the charitable organisation of poker professional Phil Ivey will host a no-limit Texas hold'em event to raise money for Empowered 2 Excel.

The Budding Ivey Foundation and the Golden Nugget have decided to try and help the children's group, after it had to close down due to financial reasons.

"Right now we are focused on raising funds for Empowered 2 Excel," said Ivey, who is currently taking part in the World Series of Poker at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in the Nevada city, but is yet to win a bracelet.

"The North Las Vegas children's academy closed its doors this spring due to a lack of funds. We want to see those doors open again."
