Budapest - will be home to new casino

Last month, Plaza Centers announced that it will be developing the largest casino in Hungary over the next few years.

The home of a new European casino resort - set to cost €1.5 billion (£1.19 billion) - has been described as a "very vibrant city".

Hungarian capital Budapest has a number of qualities that may have helped it secure the Plaza Centers Dream Island scheme, which will see the country's biggest casino built over the next few years, according to technical director of Aquavista Property Consultants Sean Ashdown.

Plaza Centers was given a gaming licence last month to build an entertainment complex in what Mr Ashdown called a "very metropolitan" city.

"Budapest is a very accessible place, it's very central and it isn't seen as an old bloc really. Hungary sits on the borderline and has always felt very western-European," the technical director explained.

In 2004, there were more than 2.3 million tourists that visited Budapest, according to International Property magazine. This was a 16 per cent increase on the previous year and highlights the market potential for the city's new casino.
