Nichola Dixon, a former pupil of Leeds's 'Fame School', Intake, has earned a spot as a presenter for ITV's Bingo Night Live. Dixon's first memories of bingo are playing it with her mum at the local Mecca bingo hall, but she has made the transition to TV star very well.
Dixon, 33, is enjoying her time on the late night show with Melinda Messenger and Michael Underwood. “People keep calling me the next Carol Vorderman” said Dixon “But I wouldn't say I'm a maths genius like she is – I'm the link between the computer and the viewers, giving them the latest stats about who's playing and where the winners are. It's a lot of fun and we've had more than 2,000 winners already. It's a bit nerve-racking because it goes out live so that means you have to be at your very best”
Nichola is just one of the Intake pupils to rise to fame, others include Melanie Brown of the Spice Girls, and soap star Angela Griffin.
Nichola had hoped to be a dancer, but had to quit after a serious back injury. She spent some time modelling, and did a little acting, making short appearances in TV shows such as Emmerdale, before starting work as a TV presenter.
Bingo Night Live airs five nights a week, and lets viewers play free bingo, with cash prizes including a £25,000 jackpot up for grabs.
Nichola commented that “Bingo has become so popular in recent years [...] We're getting more and more people signing up to play and there are a lot of 18 year olds.”
Bingo Night Live airs after midnight each night from Tuesday to Saturday.
