A recent study by BingoPort has found that online bingo is a huge industry in the UK. Online bingo players are spending around $1.2 billion per year on tickets from locally operated sites alone.
The report looked at the most popular domestically operated bingo sites, and the amount spent was worked out based on the value of receipts and prizes. BingoPort monitor major UK operators around the clock, and have a very comprehensive profile of the UK market. The monitoring does not include international Bingo companies that merely have a presence in the UK.
“We've seen an unprecedented growth in the online bingo industry here in the UK in the past year2, said Scott Logan, BingoPort Managing Director. “The fact that online bingo players are purchasing bingo tickets in the realm of $1.2 billion is truly amazing considering the credit crunch but not surprising considering the licensing of the online gaming industry in the UK.”
Logan added “This is the most accurate estimate to date of the size of the online bingo industry in this country [...] As the only company so comprehensively monitoring this data, we are able to gain a unique insight into the industry that isn't possible otherwise.”
The information may be valuable to companies that operate bricks and mortar bingo halls, which have been struggling in light of rising taxes and the smoking ban, which has deterred many people from visiting halls as they can get a similar experience by playing online from home.
