A large group of wounded soldiers were treated to an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas last weekend.
The trip was organized by the Armed Forces Foundation, and there were 40 soldiers involved, from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The trip took the soldiers to the Venetian Resort Casino, located on the Las Vegas Strip.
Among the soldiers was Kyle Riley, aged 21, from Catlett, Virginia. Riley lost a part of his left leg to an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) while on tour in Iraq. He enjoyed the trip to Vegas, and he and his fiancee decided to make the trip their wedding weekend, getting married on a gold and white gondola, courtesy of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire owner of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, who paid for the soldiers to visit Vegas.
The soldiers enjoyed a trip in a private jet to Vegas, where they were greeted by Wayne Newton. They got to chill backstage with the Blue Man Group, and hobnob with several stars.
The Armed Forces Foundation said that the trip was a good distraction from the stresses of everyday life at the hopsitals, and helped the soldiers who were still recovering from their injuries.
