Attention Turns To Slots In Macau

Macau gambling operator welcomes new sponsor for its popular slots event.

Gaming technology provider PacificNet has been announced as a sponsor of the Sociedade de Jogos de Macau's (SJM's) slots competition.

The gambling operator, which is located in the Chinese administrative region of Macau, has introduced the tournament to the area in an attempt to boost the popularity of slot machines in Asia.

Sports and golf equipment, as well as mobile technology, are just some of the prizes being offered to winners at the event.

"First of all, we congratulate our customer SJM on their successful initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange," said Tony Tong, chief executive officer of PacificNet.

"We are excited to sponsor the SJM slot competition and are happy with our slot machine performance so far."

He added that players have been attracted to the company's slots and they are getting "heavy play" during the event - which is "exciting" news.

Macau recently overtook Las Vegas as the venue with the highest annual revenue from casinos and gambling.
