Bingo on the mobile

Playing bingo on a mobile has been described as an "exciting development" for the numbers game industry.

It is difficult to judge how quickly mobile phone bingo will grow, according to the UK's Bingo Association.

The concept of gambling on the move is still "so new" that it cannot be predicted how well the new numbers game market will develop.

Discussing mobile bingo further, communications manager at the trade association Stephen Baldwin claimed that the market "is not quite aligned to the mobile phone industry and it's not yet aligned to mainstream gambling activity".

Mobile bingo "is very embryonic in this country", he added.

In 2006, GamCare reported that bingo contributed to 0.8 per cent of all gambling and that people over 56 were the age group most likely to play the game.

Online bingo apparently made up 0.6 per cent of all internet-based gambling.
