Bingo Caller of The Year Competition Cancelled

The National Bingo Game Association has announced that they have had to cancel the Bingo Caller of The Year competition. The competition is normally the highlight of the bingo industry year, and it's cancellation has caused much disappointment.

The NBGA has said that the competition will be back in a bigger and better format next year, and cited changes in the land based bingo industry in the UK as the reason for the cancellation.

Gala, one of the biggest land based bingo companies in the UK, pulled out of the national game this year, leaving their callers ineligible for the competition. Gala halls account for around one third of the UK's bingo halls, and their withdrawal cut the number of competitors drastically. The withdrawal also affected revenues for the national game, and forced the NBGA to cut costs in a number of ways, with the Caller of the Year competition being the first casualty.

The NBGA said that callers are the life and soul of the live bingo industry, and they plan to open the awards to television callers as of next year, broadening the appeal of the competition, while recognising the people who contribute so much to live bingo clubs and shows.

Last year, the Bingo Caller of the Year winner was Blake Robson a caller from the South Shields Mecca bingo hall. Robson won a trophy, and a trip to Las Vegas.
