Casino closure prompts one Canadian man to start playing poker online - and it may be for good.
Online poker has been described as a "convenient" way to play the popular card game by one gambler in Canada.James McIlwrath, who enjoys poker in his home town, told the Brantford Expositor that he has started playing it on the web since a strike at his local casino prompted the property to temporarily close down.
And he may not go back to the card rooms of Brantford casino - as he likes playing via the internet so much.
This is despite the fact that he would have spent around 1,000 hours a year playing at the venue prior to its closure.
With the casinos in Niagara, Port Perry and Rama too far away to travel to, online poker is Mr McIlwrath's preferred option.
"Now that [Brantford workers] are on strike, people in southern Ontario no longer have a place to play," he explained to the publication.
Phil Martin, editor of Casino Review magazine, recently said that playing poker online has helped a number of players learn the ropes before taking part in the big land-based tournaments around the globe.
