Thousands of pounds were won at a poker tournament in the east midlands this weekend.
A man nicknamed "Scarmoosh" beat 258 fellow card enthusiasts to win he Nottingham Poker Festival in the east midlands at the weekend.Stephen Docherty walked away with the first prize of £10,800 after fending off the challenge from Malcolm Muskett and Jamie O'Connor, who finished in second and third place respectively.
Virgin Poker sponsored the event and the company's poker manager Joe Legge has claimed that the competition - which is in its third year - was a success.
"The Nottingham Poker Festival was a huge hit, drawing in the largest number of poker enthusiasts yet," he explained.
Mr Legge added that Virgin Poker is looking forward to organising the next poker event in 2008.
This comes after Leicestershire resident Neil Blatchly was successful in the Bristol leg of the Gala Casinos British Poker Tour last month, winning nearly £35,000 in the process.
