An 86 year old man was mugged when leaving his local bingo club on John Street in Oldham, Manchester, last Sunday. The man, who had won a large cash prize whilst playing at the club that night, was attacked just seconds after picking up his winnings and leaving the bingo club to go home.
The attacker grabbed the man by the head and pushed him to the ground, then stole his winnings and ran away. The victim was left with severe facial injuries and bruising to his arm, as well as being angry and shaken by the ordeal.
Police Constable Rukhsana Kauser, from the Oldham Volume Crime Team, said “To target an elderly man in this way defies belief. Seconds before the attack he had left the bingo hall with his winnings. It looks like someone has been opportunistic and spotted this man setting off home with his cash winnings.”
The police are still looking for the attacker, and request that anyone who has any information relating to the incident contact the Greater Manchester Police force.
Usual procedure for large prizes is to pay with a cheque, and bingo halls suggest that you speak with a member of staff if you are unsure about leaving the hall with a large quantity of money.
