Bingo player of ten years strikes it lucky with five-figure windfall at club in Penrith.
One lucky bingo playing pensioner is £27,000 richer this week after her numbers came up in the National Game.Ada Borrowdale, a 79-year-old from Shap in the north of England, received the windfall after playing at the Opera Bingo Club in Penrith, reports the News and Star.
Victory was tinged with sadness however, as the numbers game win came just one week after the death of Ms Borrowdale's brother, whom she had cared for until his last day.
Commenting to the newspaper after her bingo win, the pensioner remarked: "People said I deserved this with what I'd been through and how I'd helped him."
Ethel Nicholl, manager of the Opera venue, added that everyone was really happy for the triumphant woman, who had been playing for ten years without a win as big as this.
Last month, the National Bingo website reported that 22-year-old Nathan Jenkins from Eastwood won £62,000 playing bingo at the Mecca Club in Southend, Essex.
