New report reveals that Macau's gambling revenue tops that of any other gaming centre in the world.
Macau in Asia is the premier gambling destination in the world, according to a new survey from one of the Big Four accountancy firms. The Chinese administrative region reported a 47 per cent increase in revenue between 2006 and 2007, states Ernst & Young's recently-published Gaming Bulletin.
This increase in proceeds is considerably higher than that recorded by America's gambling capital Las Vegas.
Whereas Sin City's takings rose 1.5 per cent to $6.8 billion (£3.4 billion), Macau's revenues reached $10.2 billion.
Tom Roche, global gaming services leader at Ernst & Young, remarked: "With new destination gaming centres opening around the globe and technological advances such as electronic table games ... we see potential for future revenue growth in the sector."
Last month, Casino Review magazine editor Phil Martin claimed that, although Macau makes more money than Vegas, its visitors are predominantly Chinese and has fewer visitors from other countries around the world.
