It has been suggested that poker is one of the most popular subjects for people using online chatrooms in Ireland.

Poker is a popular topic of conversation for internet users in Ireland, new research has claimed.

The card game, which is played across the world, is one of the top discussion points for Irish people who use internet chatrooms, reports Siliconrepublic.com.

Ireland-based web portal Boards.ie conducted the study, which was produced as part of a competition launched by the Digital Research Enterprise Institute at the National University of Ireland Galway.

Chat classed as "after hours" discussion material was the most popular subject, while poker, football, motoring and computers all ranked highly.

Boards.ie undertook the research by analysing the array of message boards on its web pages.

In related news, search engine Lycos publishes monthly updates on the most searched for terms - and poker is often found in the top 30 words.
