Las Vegas will host a poker tournament between some of the games top players and a new computer.
A team of researchers at a Canadian university believe they have invented a computer that can beat humans at poker. This follows the launch of electronic poker equipment at Atlantic City's Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.
Experts at the University of Alberta (U of A) have designed a machine that they will take into a poker tournament in the gambling capital of America, Las Vegas, the Edmonton Journal reports.
The same group invented the Polaris machine last year, which competed with players at the card game, but ultimately failed.
Polaris II is the new-improved version and those responsible for its creation are confident that they have developed the technology that will see a computer triumph over the human brain.
Michael Bowling, the U of A researcher who heads the Polaris team, told the newspaper: "This year we're aiming [to be] better than human players."
He added that the people taking on the computer are "world-class players" who work for online poker training site stoxpoker.com.
