Poker player's girlfriend misses her other half's big money win in Las Vegas.
Northern Irish poker professional Marty Smyth won big at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) last week, but his girlfriend was not there to see him claim victory.Talking to the Belfast Telegraph, the Pot Limit Omaha World Championship winner's brother Paul explained how Marty's other half was on a plane back to the UK when he won almost $900,000 (£450,000) at the Las Vegas event.
"Karen [Marty's girlfriend] will be kicking herself now that she wasn't there for the big win," Paul told the publication.
"But he's out there with quite a few other players from the UK so no doubt he'll celebrate a bit."
The poker star's sibling also revealed that Marty has pocketed more than $1 million since becoming a professional card player, suggesting that he has done "pretty well" from his poker career to date.
The Belfast man is one of those taking part in the WSOP main event, which started yesterday. The prize for the winner could be close to $10 million.
