WSOP - raises money for charity

Online poker site donated $1 (50p) to a homeless children charity for every player Padraig Parkinson beat at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event.

A homeless children's charity in Dublin, Ireland gained $5,524 (£2,250) from poker professional Padraig Parkinson's efforts at last week's WSOP, it has emerged.

This total was achieved after gambling website Pokertrillion.com donated $1 for every player the Irish card player finished ahead of in Las Vegas' most-glamorous poker tournament.

In addition, the online poker site has pledged to run a freeroll competition with the same amount of money as a first prize.

Parkinson, who poker enthusiasts may recognise as the winner of Late Night Poker series five, has revealed that playing for a good cause was a motivating factor while at the Vegas card tables.

"I made some very conservative lay downs in the early stages of the main event because in the back of my mind I wanted to do my best for the homeless kids in Dublin," he explained.
