South Africa Favourites As First Test Starts

Ladbrokes has claimed the most-regular betting choice when it comes to Test cricket is for the overall match or series result.

Sports betting firm Ladbrokes has said that South Africa are favourites to win the Test series with England this summer.

It has also claimed that punters are more likely to put their money on the overall result of the Test or series, rather than place bets on things beyond who wins.

Spokesperson for Ladbrokes Nick Weinberg suggested that his company currently has South Africa to win at 10/11 and England to triumph at 7/4, while a draw is 100/13.

Explaining the current sports betting trends, he added: "It is still England to win, South Africa to win or the draw that are by far the most-popular markets."

There are other markets offered but those who choose to put money on these make up "only a small proportion" of what is taken on the overall result.

Prior to today's eagerly-anticipated first Test, England captain Michael Vaughan has admitted that his team are the underdogs going into the series.
