Handheld poker games, and even mobile casino games, are nothing new, but now you can play poker on the move using your phone, or your MP3 player. It's not quite as exciting as playing for money, but it's a good way to get some practice in, and it saves you the bandwidth charges of playing online on your mobile.
Texas Hold'em is a poker game released by Apple for the iPhone and the iPod. It runs on the iPhone 2.0 software, so presumably if they ever release any other devices it should run on those too.
The graphics are incredibly good for a game running on such a small device, with a crisp, polished appearance and smooth character animations. That said, you should demand nothing less considering the game is over 100MB in size. The game gives the feeling of playing in a club, with background music, cheers, and other sounds to add to the atmosphere.
Interface wise, the iPhone version is very intuitive, using touch screen menus for the most part. The iPod version uses the click wheel to overcome the limitations of such a small device.
There is a multiplayer mode which uses WiFi for the connections, and is a fun way to play if you have a friend who is also an iPhone owner. You may wonder why, if you're so close together, you can't just play with a real deck of cards, but this way you don't need a dealer, and you could play on the train or some other kind of cramped space.
If you're looking for a nice 'just for fun' poker game with a slick appearance, this is the game for you.
