A good bingo caller must not go too fast, but also be careful not to read out the digits too slowly, according to one industry representative.
The speed at which bingo numbers are called out is an important part of the bingo caller's job, it has been claimed.Nikki Marshall, account executive at Gala Bingo, has said that bingo callers need to remember not to announce the digits too quickly or too slowly.
She was reflecting on Gala's recent Bingo Caller of the Year competition, which was won for the second year in succession by the north-east-based Michael Edwards.
Apparently, the judges tested for a variety of skills before making their decision.
"You have to go at a certain pace. During the finals they actually played a lot of live games to about 300 people," Ms Marshall explained.
Mr Edwards was deemed to have the right criteria to be named champion, ahead of the other seven contenders in this year's final. Commenting on his attributes, the Gala Bingo representative said he is "quite experienced" in the bingo caller role.
