Expert Claims Olympics Haven't Overshadowed Football Betting

Football betting continues

Second week of the football season sees strong betting activity, it has been claimed.

There was a "very good week of betting turnover" related to the second round of Premier League football fixtures, according to a UK gambling expert.

Charlie McCann, head of public relations at Betdirect and Stan James, said that Arsenal's defeat to Fulham was good news for bookies.

Moreover, Mr McCann suggested that the Olympic Games - which ended last weekend - have not overshadowed the football season.

"Everybody has an opinion on the Premiership and, as it turned out, it was a good week because Arsenal got beaten and some clients expect Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal to win every week and bet accordingly," he remarked.

Fellow bookmaker William Hill reported this month that betting on the Beijing Olympic Games had exceeded £25 million. The company also claimed that a minimum of £50 million is expected to be gambled on the London Olympics in four years' time.
