Moyes may not have much reason to smile

Everton boss David Moyes will be the first Premier League manager to leave his job this season, some football betting punters have predicted.

Everton's David Moyes has emerged as the strong favourite to be the first managerial casualty of the 2008-09 season, according to one leading bookmaker.

Despite Everton's fifth place finish last season, Moyes has been backed in to 5/1 with Ladbrokes to be the first boss to move on.

Nick Weinberg, press officer for Ladbrokes, explained: "Speculation surrounding David Moyes's future has prompted a gamble on him to be the first casualty of the new campaign."

The bookmaker has also taken money from people forecasting early exits for West Ham United's Alan Curbishley and Gary Megson of Bolton Wanderers, while some punters have predicted the briefest of reigns for new Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Ince.

Mr Weinberg added that the loss of David Bentley and Brad Friedel to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa respectively had led to a feeling that "Blackburn are going to struggle this year".ADNFCR-1691-ID-18724731-ADNFCR
