Recent breaches of advertising legislation by gambling firms serve as examples to other companies in the industry, according to the Remote Gambling Association (RGA).

Gambling firms, including online poker sites, internet casino companies and portals that allow people to play bingo via the web, may wish to take note of recent comments from the RGA.

According to the organisation, breaches of gambling advertising regulations reported this year can serve as examples to other businesses in the sector.

Brian Wright, business director of the RGA, has claimed that betting firms wishing to advertise their services and products need to focus there campaigns on what it is they are tring to sell.

He offered the example of InterCasino, which launched an advert earlier in 2008 that referenced war. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) stepped in and told the group to stop broadcasting that particular ad.

"I think if you steer clear of areas like that and concentrate on the product more then it will be fine," explained Mr Wright, who added that the vast majority of gambling adverts have been fine.

This final comment is backed up by an ASA survey conducted between September and October 2007. The research found that only seven out of 784 advertisements breached its codes.
