Mardle just missed the bullseye in Luton

Wayne Mardle has laid claim to being the top poker player on the professional darts scene.

He may struggle to compete with Phil Taylor at the oche, but Wayne Mardle can now claim to be the best poker player on the professional darts circuit.

Taylor is well known for his love of the card game after appearing in several televised tournaments and recently spoke of his desire to play in the World Series of Poker.

Mardle has done more than talk about taking on the professionals and has actually been playing against them.

He participated in leg six of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) at Luton's G Casino last week and made it all the way through to the final table.

The man known as Hawaii 501 was eventually eliminated in seventh, but picked up £14,100 in prize money.

Sam Trickett went on to win the event and the £106,050 first prize after defeating David La Ronde in the heads-up.

At 22, Trickett is the youngest ever victor on the GUKPT.ADNFCR-1691-ID-18726945-ADNFCR
