Michael Phelps has revealed that he holds an ambition to play in the World Series of Poker.
Record-breaking Olympian Michael Phelps has revealed he is keen to replicate his success in the swimming pool at the card table. The US swimmer won eight gold medals in Beijing to add to the six he collected in Athens in 2004, making him the most successful Olympic performer ever in any discipline.
Top competitors are always on the lookout for the next big challenge and while Phelps is already thinking about London 2012, he also has an eye on poker success.
He told the Baltimore Sun that playing in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) would be a great experience.
"My game is a little off right now, so I'll have to start improving it a little bit. But I think that would be cool and it would be cool to meet some of those poker guys," Phelps added.
Perhaps the swimmer is attracted by the money, as the winner of the WSOP main event will collect $9.1 million (£4.8 million) for success at November's final table, while Phelps only picked up a $1 million sponsor's bonus for his efforts in China.
