Demand for poker instruction books remains strong, according to a leading industry figure.

Poker strategy books remain popular with serious card players, according to a leading gambling publisher.

Anyone visiting a major bookshop will now see a shelf dedicated to poker books - a development which reflects the growth in popularity of the game in the UK during the past five years.

Among the best-selling titles are Doyle Brunson's Super System and Daniel Negreanu's recently-published Power Hold'em Strategy.

Cardoza Publishing is responsible for both and Michael Stern, a spokesman for the company, said competition in the market is strong.

"A million publishers are now writing strategy books. If you are a serious poker player you do want to know how the professionals play," he explained.

However, Mr Stern added that other types of poker books are also popular with players, notably autobiographies by Brunson, the 75-year-old ten-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, and renowned gambling author Ken Warren.
