Poker ace Marty Smyth has recorded another tournament victory, but for much less money than he usually plays for.
Marty Smyth has admitted that his latest poker tournament victory came virtue of a large slice of luck. The Irishman's skills have brought him both him the World Open and World Series of Poker pot-limit Omaha World Championship this year.
Those victories netted him more than $1.1 million (£590,000) in cash, but his most recent appearance was a tournament on home soil with a top prize of just 3,400 (£2,675).
Smyth picked up the meagre pay cheque at the Irish Poker Classic Omaha event in Cork last week, after the final five players negotiated a chop.
They agreed to decide the victor on a single hand with everyone going all in and Smyth came out on top.
"In keeping with the ridiculous run of form that I've been on of late, they were all drawing dead on the turn and I had another trophy to add to my recent haul," he said.
Smyth has an outstanding track record in tournaments held in his homeland, with his previous successes including the $850,000 first prize at the 2007 Irish Open.
