Rafael Nadal's dominance has done little to put sports betting enthusiasts off tennis.
Interest in tennis betting remains strong ahead of the US Open, according to a leading bookmaker.Statistics compiled by William Hill showed that the Wimbledon final between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer saw more money staked on it than any other tennis match in history.
Nadal has since built on his Wimbledon triumph and become world number one thanks to a series of dominant performances, including winning gold at the Beijing Olympics.
However, Steve Freeth of bet365 insisted that the Spaniard's pre-eminence had not put punters off betting on tennis during the build up to the US Open.
Mr Freeth explained that although Nadal is a short price to win the last Grand Slam of the year, plenty of serious punters are putting him in accumulators.
"The US Open outright is very busy and Federer and [Novak] Djokovic are just behind him in the betting, so it could be a fascinating punting heat," he added.
Nadal can be backed at 6/4, while second-favourite Federer is best-priced 3/1.
