Southampton casino employees will reportedly not receive a 4.7 per cent inflation-level pay rise.
News that around 100 casino workers on the south coast of England will not receive a 4.7 per cent inflation-level salary rise has been described as an effective pay cut.The Southern Daily Echo reports that staff at the Harbour House and Mint casinos will not be getting a boost to their pay cheques, despite union bosses requesting this to happen.
Genting and Stanley, the company which owns the Southampton city centre-based gambling venues, has opted not to implement the increase in pay.
Regional British General Union organiser Adrian Baker spoke to the newspaper, saying casino workers would not be happy with the decision.
"Staff will be horrified that the company is expecting [them] to draw on their own reserves to pay increased costs of energy, water and getting to work - this is effectively a pay cut," he explained.
Genting and Stanley launched an online gaming site this summer, following the Alderney Gambling Control Commission's decision to grant it a licence.
